An interview with Danny Whitfield with the Detroit news dated April,1996

How did you get into your career field?
Danny began expressing his fascination with cars through his drawings and paintings at the age of 5. In his high school days where he attend “Henry For High School” he spent
countless ours drawing cars instead of studying. This fascination led him to study transportation design at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit Michigan. He earned his degree in
Auto Body Design from Macomb Community College. The skills I learned at Macomb was a send God send! In 1990, he held his first art exhibit at the Gallery Auto Mania. Danny
Whitfield’s original creations sell for $700 to $7,000. This is quite a difference from the $30 he was paid for one of  his commissions, which was a watercolor painting of a co-worker’s
1979 Oldsmobile Delta 88. His creations include representations of vintage autos and futuristic production designs for either his own company, Autovision, or General Motors, where
he worked as an stylist and illustrator.

What do you like most about your work?
He likes being able to display his artwork to a mass customer base. Danny’s personal collection of has been displayed in the central cafeteria of the GM Tech Center, as well as on the
third-floor cafeteria of the NAO Headquarters. His art have been on display at the Grosse Pointe Gallery located in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. If you get a chance to tour the
National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green Kentucky, check out the 6ft x 8ft Wall Mural of a 1965 All American Corvette. Danny was commission to create this masterpiece for the
museum Inaugural opening.   Danny was also a featured artists of Woodward Dream Cruise in 1996. His sold-out exhibit at the Woodward Dream Cruise consisted of realistic acrylic,
paintings of classic automobiles, from 1920s Packard’s to futuristic cars, and any cars in between that interest him.   These cars included 1957 Chevy’s, Dodge Vipers, 1960s Muscle
Cars, Corvettes, Ford Mustangs, and many more. As you can imagine in this automotive town of Detroit, Michigan, Danny has some important people as collectors. His work is
catching the eyes of private collectors and others from all over the country, including Tonight Show host Jay Leno; former Domino’s Pizza CEO Tom Monaghan, Robert Lutz formerly of
Chrysler Corporation, The late Alex Trotman, former president of Ford Motor Company, and comedian and Bill Cosby.   Danny currently works in a private studio, and teaches students
how to develop the basics of art perspective, 3-dimensional drawing, and watercolor. He is very motivating, specific in his suggestions, and articulate in communicating his expertise.
Amazingly, in just a short time span, he can take beginners from simple pencil drawings to producing watercolor paintings—many of which are suitable for framing and sales. His
students have not only learned important art techniques, but have also developed confidence in their own artistic abilities.

What are some challenges and exciting things you see in the near future?
In the future, Mr. Whitfield aspires to open an automotive museum in San Diego and to possibly set up a school for under-privileged budding artists. Having worked at General Motors,
Ford Motor Company, the Chrysler Corporation, and countless engineering  companies, Danny’s love for the automobile is the highest among the most hard core car buffs. His art has
been widely featured at professional events. As he is very fond of car shows, he especially enjoying the opportunity to speak personally with those who share such an appreciation for
the pure aesthetic of the automobile.  Danny continues to unleash his automotive passions at an explosive rate. He's been stroking the paint brush for a good 25 professional years.
His 'Whitfield Edition's' are the mark of excellence in the combine talent of design and his personal touch in styling. As of 2006 Danny has created over 2,607 professional paintings
and  drawings and still going strong.

A personal view:
As a visual artist, my life is filled with emotions! The escape of a mad mad world is beautiful scenery and nature. Cars are my first love, art is 2nd and music is 3rd. Combined the three
and the results is majestic poetry in motion!  I don't like large crowds, but its part of the act. What type of thoughts fill my head when creating automotive art?
Peace, Serenity and horsepower!
